About us

Pila Energy is a seed-stage startup building plug-and-play home battery systems that make reliable power and energy control accessible without complex installation or costly electrical upgrades. Our mission is to amplify self-sufficiency, safety, and comfort in homes by starting with the most essential element: reliable power.

We’re modernizing the grid from the bottom up by distributing intelligence and energy storage across homes and small businesses — starting with the devices people already rely on every day.

We design elegant, intuitive hardware and software that bring energy resilience and management to renters and homeowners alike. Our small, high-impact team brings deep experience building leading energy and IoT products at companies including SPAN, Tesla, Apple, Lightship, and Amazon Alexa.

About the Role

We’re looking for an operator with strong judgment, high ownership, and a bias toward execution. This role is built for someone who thrives in turning messy inputs into clear action, and wants to help shape how a company actually runs.

You’ll work closely with the founder and a small, fast-moving team to drive execution across the business -- from partnerships and operations to customer experience and internal systems. This role sits at the center of the company, connecting dots across functions and helping translate intent into momentum.

You’ll do well here if you enjoy thinking in systems and building structures where little yet exists. This is not a narrow role. It’s about judgment, ownership, and helping the company move faster and more clearly as it scales. This role is for someone who enjoys building the plane while flying it -- thoughtfully, intentionally, and with care for the people inside it.

Things You Will Work On

While priorities will evolve, here are a few themes you will take on:

  • Support partnerships, growth, and new opportunities - Help evaluate and advance early partnerships across technology, channel, and distribution. Support exploration of bundled offerings, new markets, and strategic opportunities that inform long-term direction.

  • Strengthen customer experience and operations - Help evolve our customer support and success foundation -- improving responsiveness, consistency, and feedback loops between customers, product, and operations.

  • Enable better decision-making - Help define and track the right metrics at the right time. Build lightweight dashboards, analyses, and narratives that help the team understand what’s working, what’s not, and what to do next.

  • Support team growth and communication - Assist with hiring coordination, onboarding, internal documentation, and clear communication as the team grows. Help ensure we’re scaling with intention, not chaos.

  • Support storytelling and external-facing work - Contribute to materials for partners, investors, events, and experiments that help communicate who we are and where we’re going.

  • Act as a force multiplier for the team - Work closely with the founder and functional leads to unblock progress, clarify priorities, and keep the company focused on what matters most at each stage.

  • Build operational clarity and momentum - Identify where things are breaking down or slowing us down, and create simple systems, processes, or tools that help the company operate more effectively without adding unnecessary overhead.

  • Drive high-impact work across the company - Take ownership of complex, cross-functional initiatives and move them from ambiguity to execution. You’ll help define the problem, align stakeholders, drive progress, and ensure follow-through.

Who You Are

You’re a strong generalist operator who enjoys solving ambiguous problems and turning ideas into action. You’re comfortable moving between strategy and execution, and you take pride in making things work better over time.

You likely bring:

  • 3–7 years of experience in operations, strategy, business development, consulting, or an early-stage startup

  • Strong analytical thinking and comfort working with metrics, financial models, and structured problem-solving

  • The ability to operate independently, manage competing priorities, and drive work forward without heavy direction

  • Strong organizational instincts and attention to detail without losing sight of the big picture

  • Clear, thoughtful communication skills -- written and verbal

  • The ability to build trust quickly and collaborate across disciplines

  • Comfort working in ambiguity and shaping structure where none exists

Startup experience is strongly preferred, especially in environments where ownership is high and roles are fluid. Fluency with tools like Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and AI tools is expected; familiarity with SQL, Python, or automation tools is a plus but not required.

You don’t need a background in energy or hardware to thrive here – curiosity, judgment, and execution matter more. That said, experience in these domains often helps people get to impact faster.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and equity compensation

  • Medical, dental, and vision health insurance

  • 401(k) retirement savings

  • Opportunities for learning, ownership, and career growth

  • Flexible work arrangements in San Francisco or Denver

A Note from the Founder

I started Pila because I believe energy should feel dependable, human, and quietly empowering – not something people only think about when it fails. Building toward that future means working across hardware, software, operations, and real people’s homes, all at once. It’s meaningful work, and it’s also messy.

This role exists because we’re at a stage where clarity and execution matter just as much as vision. We’re looking for someone who can help turn complexity into momentum – someone who enjoys bringing order to ambiguity, spotting what actually matters, and helping a small team move faster and with more confidence.

You’ll work closely with me and the rest of the team to shape how Pila operates day to day. That might mean unblocking a partnership, improving how we support customers, tightening how we make decisions, or helping us prepare for the next phase of growth. There’s no fixed playbook here – just real problems, real ownership, and the opportunity to help define how this company works from the inside out.

If you’re energized by building early, care deeply about craft and execution, and want your work to have visible, lasting impact, I’d love to hear from you.
