Growth Marketing Lead
Pila Energy
About us
Pila Energy is a seed-stage startup building plug-and-play home battery systems that make reliable power and energy control accessible without complex installation or costly electrical upgrades. Our mission is to amplify resilience, safety, and comfort in homes by starting with the most essential element: reliable power.
We’re modernizing the grid from the bottom up by distributing intelligence and energy storage across homes and small businesses — starting with the devices people already rely on every day.
We design elegant, intuitive hardware and software that bring energy resilience and management to renters and homeowners alike. Our small, high-impact team brings deep experience building leading energy and IoT products at companies including SPAN, Tesla, Apple, Lightship, and Amazon Alexa.
About the Role
We're looking for a growth marketer who can drive our direct-to-consumer business from early traction to meaningful scale — someone who's built and executed growth strategies at an early-stage consumer hardware or DTC company.
As our first full-time marketing hire, you'll own marketing strategy and execution. That means setting the vision for how we grow our brand and reach our customers – executing directly in your areas of strength, and strategically managing contractors to complement your expertise. This is a hands-on role that requires moving fluidly between strategy and execution, sizing bets carefully, and building a growth function from scratch. If you're energized by building from 1 to 10 – this is the opportunity for you.
This role is intentionally broad — you'll touch every part of marketing but aren’t expected to be expert at all of it. We're looking for someone with deep strength in 1-2 areas who can smartly orchestrate the rest. This is a cross-functional, high-exposure role where you will work closely with our CEO & Founder, Ops Lead, Customer Support, and other fractional marketing and comms talent.
Things You Will Work On
Set the strategic vision for growth - Define how we reach and convert customers, which channels we prioritize, and how we measure success. Drive execution to achieve 3–4x revenue growth this year, building repeatable systems for acquisition and retention. Partner with ops and support to ensure the full customer experience reinforces why people choose Pila.
Own how Pila shows up in the world - Define our brand storytelling across all touchpoints, and execute across some. Write creative briefs, web copy, and email sequences. Build our presence on social channels, influence the PR and influencer strategy, and explore affiliate partnerships. You'll shape how people discover, understand, and talk about Pila. On channels you aren’t executing on, you’ll effectively manage top-tier contractors.
Build and execute across performance channels - Drive customer acquisition through paid social, search, email marketing, partnerships, and content. Execute directly in 1-2 channels where you have deep expertise and manage contractors in others. Test, optimize, and scale what works.
Size bets and manage resources strategically - Help decide what we do and don't pursue, focusing on the few things that will drive outsized impact. Manage a lean budget with discipline — track ROI, prove out channels before scaling, and make smart trade-offs.
Own website and conversion optimization - Manage our digital storefront. Test messaging, improve performance, reduce friction, and use data to drive continuous improvement in conversion rates.
Who You Are
You likely bring:
5–8 years of marketing experience, with 2–3+ years driving growth at a DTC or consumer hardware company
Deep, hands-on expertise in 1-2 core digital channels (paid social, email, partnerships, or content) plus working knowledge of others — you know when to execute yourself vs. bring in specialists
Comfortable experimenting with AI tools and workflows to scale yourself with high judgment
A strategic thinker paired with hands-on execution — you build the plan and do the work. You're self-aware about your strengths and honest about where you need to complement your skills with contractors
Fluency across brand and performance marketing, connecting positioning with conversion
Strong storytelling skills — you understand what motivates customers and how to differentiate your product, and can execute storytelling across a handful of formats
Comfort with data, metrics, and attribution to inform decisions and optimize campaigns
Ability to thrive in ambiguity and work independently
Startup experience is strongly preferred, especially where you built the function. Experience in energy, climate tech, utilities, or home hardware is a plus but not required
